| Luo Xianglin is a famous historian in modern China,who has made his mark in Hakka studies,Tang history,and Hong Kong historiography.Under the influence of nationalist thinking and the "new historiography" and the inspiration of his family and his mentors,such as Chen Yinke and Liang Qichao,he absorbed the essence of traditional historiography while carrying forward the strengths of modern historiography.In particular,he has made considerable achievements in the study of modern figures.The modern figures studied by Luo Xianglin mainly include Sun Yat-sen,Hong Xiuquan,Liu Yongfu,Fu Bingchang,Liang Cheng,Yung-han,Qiu Fengjia and Luo Fuxing,etc.He has achieved fruitful results.His research focuses on the family origins,revolutionary activities,diplomatic practices,cultural and educational work of the figures.In the process of studying modern figures,his research interests of promoting nationalism,promoting local culture,and attaching importance to the application of the world,as well as his focus on the influence of environment on figures,the contribution of elite figures,and the importance of the application of the world.In his study of modern figures,Luo Xianglin is good at collecting historical materials from various aspects,focusing on fieldwork and grasping details.However,he also has shortcomings,such as paying too much attention to the elite class and neglecting the study of the general public;his research is strongly subjective and fails to look at historical figures from the perspective of materialistic history. |
