An Analysis Of Character Creation In Vulnerable Children’s Documentary Films

Since the founding of New China,documentaries about children have emerged,with excellent films such as "Kindergarten","Little People’s Land" and "Zero Dark Thirty".However,with the continuous progress of society,there are still some children in difficulties,and the survival status of children in difficulties has gradually attracted people’s attention.At the same time,because of the rapid development of video platforms and the inherent advantages of this group in communication,the number of related documentaries has gradually increased,leading to the current situation that the quality of documentaries on children in difficulties is mixed.Although the life of most of the children in distress is difficult,the children still remain true to themselves and face life with a positive attitude,while emphasizing their tragic life may be another kind of harm to the main character.Based on the author’s graduation work "Folk Acrobatic",this paper will explore the shaping of characters in documentaries about children in distress from the idea of "child-orientation" by using the knowledge of the disciplines I have learned.This paper is divided into four parts: the first part is to analyze the characterization of existing documentaries on children in distress at home and abroad,and then to propose the research ideas and methods used in this paper;the second part is to make a specific analysis of the definition and characteristics of documentaries on children in distress;the third part is to explore the image of children in distress and to solve the problem of how to use documentary language to shape the image of children.In the fourth part,based on documentary theory and the idea of "child orientation",we reflect on and consider the rationalization of character presentation,character building and psychological analysis in future documentaries on children in distress.
