Interior scene is an common painting subject in the history of art.Light as an important content of interior scene painting, from natural line light to candlelight to lamplight, from the beginning of painting to today has been shown in the works of many artists.Among them, the Danish painter Wilham Hammershoi and the American painter Edward Hopper in a large number of indoor scene paintings have a delicate presentation of light, highly appealing. They use light to construct pictures, render atmosphere and express emotions. The two painters have many works with similar themes, but their painting language and emotional expression are not the same under different social backgrounds and artistic experiences.Based on the comparison of their interior scene paintings, this paper discusses the different presentation and expression of light in their paintings, explains the expression of their painting language, and excavates their artistic characteristics and connotation.Combined with my artistic creation during the postgraduate period, this paper discusses the reference and learning of the two artists,as well as the display of light in my painting practice, analyzes the visual presentation of light in the picture and explores the deeper emotional expression.
