Sports events are not only the development of competitive sports,but also include education,art,culture,science and technology,etc.They reflect different social relations and cultural phenomena,and bring the audience into the aesthetic experience through a series of visual symbol carriers.The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games greatly promoted the development of aesthetic research of large-scale sports events in China,and the successful holding of the 14 th Shaanxi Games in 2021 and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and Zhangjiakou brought a new round of large-scale sports events aesthetic upsurge.At the same time,the state vigorously promotes the development of the sports and cultural industry,which constantly seeks innovative ways to form diversified integration of sports,culture,art and economy.However,the aesthetic research on the cauldron of large-scale sports events is still relatively scarce in China.As the core symbol of large-scale sports events,the cauldron is not only a concrete expression of competitive spirit,but also focuses on the display and dissemination of regional culture,with high aesthetic value.Based on the above background,this paper takes the cauldron in the large-scale sports events held throughout the years as the research object,uses the Angle of cultural semiotics and design semiotics to get involved in the aesthetic research of the cauldron,and combines the theory of cultural symbols and the sorting out of the culture of sports events to sort out the research content.In this study,case analysis,image analysis,cultural symbol dichotomy and other research methods were used to disintegrate and analyze the representative cauldron of large sports events at home and abroad,and the aesthetic components of the cauldron were summarized from the physical and non-physical aspects of formal beauty,namely,graphics,color,pattern,material,scale and technology.At the same time,based on the author’s extensive practice in the design scheme solicitation project of the cauldron of the 14 th Shaanxi Olympic Games,the applicability of the research theory is verified,and the cycle from application to theory and then to application is completed.Through research and analysis,this paper draws the conclusion that the cultural symbols in the cauldron of the current large-scale sports events show the continuous pursuit of beauty by the audience,artists and designers,and also trigger the multiple possibilities of the visual language of cultural symbols.Combined with the functional requirements and technical basis of the cauldron,the four aesthetic principles of sports beauty,national beauty,harmonious beauty and innovative beauty are formed.On this basis,four aesthetic characteristics of the cauldron are summarized,namely,the popularization of cultural symbol recognition,the identification of explicit form,the visualization of implicit spirit and the maximization of aesthetic expectation.It achieves the purpose of complementing the aesthetic research of large-scale sports events and providing reference for the aesthetic theory and practical application of cultural symbols in the cauldron in the future.
