| This study will and focus on the correlation between the actual performance of Shanghai deaf people’s use of sign language numeral variants and age, gender, deafness status, and deaf-hearing family background factors of Shanghai sign language users. With a sociolinguistic perspective, this study uses video media materials of 49 Shanghai deaf people’s daily communication. The study involved a total of 49 sign language users, all Shanghai sign language users, almost half male and female, with ages ranging from 20 to 98 years old,middle-aged and young, and the final annotation obtained 3646 Shanghai sign language digraph fragments. The results of this study show that there is a correlation between the use of Shanghai sign language numerals and the users’ age, gender, deafness status and family background of deaf-hearing.Also,given that most deaf people are born into hearing families and acquire sign language by learning from other deaf people, the study will also select five Chinese hearing people to count from 1-10 in a continuous counting state to further illustrate the strong influence exerted by Hearing society on the Deaf community. This study, therefore, can realistically demonstrate the use of sign language counting dialects among Chinese Deaf people and provide a reference for the development of Chinese sign language policy on the use of Chinese Deaf dialects. |
