New Concept Chinese 3 and 4 are a series of textbooks widely used for teaching Chinese overseas,edited by Professor Dao Li of Beijing Language and Culture University.New Concept Chinese 3 and New Concept Chinese 4together constitute the New Concept Chinese(Intermediate)textbook,which consists of 40 texts.Following the widely acclaimed New Concept English,these texts are written in a short,concise and lively manner,taking into account the transition from beginner to intermediate level for learners of Chinese as a second language.The teaching sequence of New Concept Chinese(Intermediate)is as follows: text,grammar learning,vocabulary and Chinese character learning,and communicative activities.This thesis takes the textbook of New Concept Chinese,Books 3 and 4 as the object of study.By analyzing the basic situation of the textbook,it explores the relationship between the concept of writing Chinese as a foreign language textbook and Ebbinghaus’ forgetting curve theory,and makes a statistical analysis of the total vocabulary of New Concept Chinese,Books 3 and 4.Meanwhile,in Chapter 3,a statistical analysis of the recurrence of vocabulary in New Concept Chinese,Books 3 and 4 is conducted,and the special cases of vocabulary recurrence are investigated.In Chapter 4,a statistical analysis of the vocabulary coverage is conducted.In addition,this thesis summarizes the research results through suggestions for writing and using Chinese language teaching materials for foreigners.In the first chapter,this paper first introduces the philosophy of writing Chinese teaching materials for foreigners,including language input,language output,emotional experience and cultural communication.Then,through the introduction of Ebbinghaus’ forgetting curve theory,it discusses how to use the forgetting curve in teaching vocabulary in foreign Chinese textbooks for reasonable vocabulary review and consolidation,so as to improve learners’ vocabulary memorization effect.In the second chapter,this paper presents a detailed statistical analysis of the total vocabulary of the third and fourth books of New Concept Chinese.The comparison of the total vocabulary reveals the distribution of vocabulary in the textbook,thus providing a basis for the study of the subsequent chapters.In the third chapter,this paper explores the frequency,time distribution and types of vocabulary recurrence through the statistical analysis of the recurrence of vocabulary in the third and fourth books of New Concept Chinese.At the same time,the special cases of vocabulary recurrence,including the morphological changes,grammatical functions and associations with the preceding and following texts,are also studied in depth,thus providing insights into understanding the difficulties and problems faced by learners in the process of vocabulary acquisition.In Chapter 4,this paper reveals some special phenomena in vocabulary recurrence by examining the special cases of vocabulary recurrence in New Concept Chinese,Books 3 and 4,including aspects such as recurrence number six,recurrence number one,and top ten recurrence numbers.Meanwhile,through statistical analysis of the special cases,the impact of raw word recurrence on learners’ language acquisition and teaching is discussed,and some suggestions for improvement and optimization are put forward,aiming to improve learners’ vocabulary acquisition.In Chapter 5,this paper presents a statistical analysis of the vocabulary coverage of New Concept Chinese,Books 3 and 4,including the frequency,difficulty and proportion of vocabulary.Through the study of the vocabulary coverage,this paper reveals the problem of insufficient vocabulary coverage in the textbook and proposes relevant suggestions for improvement to enhance the textbook’s support for learners’ vocabulary acquisition.In Chapter 6,based on the findings of the previous chapters,this paper summarizes the development and use of Chinese language teaching materials for foreigners and makes relevant suggestions.These include vocabulary teaching strategies for teaching Chinese as a foreign language textbooks,optimization of vocabulary recurrence,improvement of vocabulary coverage,and suggestions for second language learners and national Chinese teachers.Through these suggestions,the aim is to provide references for the development and use of Chinese teaching materials for foreigners,so as to better meet the language learning needs of learners.To sum up,this thesis provides a certain theoretical basis and empirical evidence for the improvement and optimization of Chinese teaching materials for foreigners through the study of the basic situation of the New Concept Chinese textbook,the writing concept and Ebbinghaus forgetting curve theory,the statistical analysis of total vocabulary,the statistical analysis of vocabulary recurrence,the special situation of vocabulary recurrence,the vocabulary coverage statistics,and the suggestions for the writing and use of Chinese teaching materials for foreigners.At the same time,this paper also reveals the problems of vocabulary teaching in current Chinese teaching materials for foreigners,and puts forward some suggestions for improvement and optimization,hoping to provide some reference and reference for the research and practice of Chinese teaching and teaching materials writing for foreigners.
