| In this report,the author simulates consecutive interpreting for conversational forum of the Second International Maker Education Forum provided by tutor.During the COVID-19 epidemic,international exchange activities had seen shape decrease and that organizers’ willing to employ student interpreter also declined.Therefore,the author had to adopted simulated conference interpreting as interpreting practice.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the author analyzes major difficulties encountered in the task and explores copping strategies in the light of the characteristics of communicative translation.Based on the transcript of the interpreting task,the author summarizes challenges in lexical level,syntactical level and contextual level,and conducts case analysis in step with the characteristics of communicative translation theory—target receptor orientation,leveraging linguistic advantages of target language and emphasizing communicative effect.At lexical level,the author adopts the strategy of explanation to tackle difficulties such as culture-loaded or culture-specific words.At syntactical level,the author utilizes division and synthesis to cope with syntactical difficulties such as long sentences and scattered sentences considering habitual differences between Chinese and English.At contextual level,omission is applied to handle irrelevant or unnecessarily repeated information while paraphrase to logically loosened or disordered information.By means of holistic review and case analysis of the interpreting task,the author hopes to pursue improvement in interpreting and provide valuable suggestions for other student interpreters at the same time. |
