| Since the new century,melodramas have made a splash on the stage,both in terms of creation and content,with the mainstream consciousness of promoting positive energy and extremely tense dramatic expression.With the progress of society and the improvement of women’s status,the portrayal of female characters has gradually diversified and complicated,breaking the “17-year period” pattern of female characters,which has attracted the attention of the industry.At present,most of the studies on melodramas focus on the script and narrative,but there is a relative lack of research on female characterization and rational reflection on female consciousness,leaving room for this paper to study.This paper focuses on the female characterization in the melodrama The Sentinel,taking the way of female characterization in the melodrama as the background analysis,sorting out the characteristics of female characters in melodramas of different eras such as the “17-year period”,the new period and the new century.The paper attempts to explore the deeper connotations and philosophical implications of the female characters through the characteristics of the era and the social context.Therefore,this paper will analyze the feminine consciousness presented in the story of the melodrama The Sentinel through the female characters and their diverse characterization,and compare the female characters in The Sentinel horizontally,so as to explore the space of female characterization in the melodrama and consider the problems.The main part of this paper is divided into four chapters.In the first chapter,the ways of portraying women in the melodrama The Sentinel and the meaning of melodrama are discussed;in the second chapter,the specific embodiment of female characters in The Sentinel is discussed from the perspectives of female character groups in melodrama in different time spans and the diversified portrayal of the same type of characters;in the third chapter,the feminine consciousness in The Sentinel is discussed based on humanism.Chapter 3,based on humanism,discusses the female consciousness in The Sentinel,and explains it from the perspectives of narrative presentation and emotional expression respectively;Chapter 4,explores the rational reflection on the portrayal of female characters in melodramas,so as to break through the limitation of homogeneous creation,present the portrayal of female characters in multiple dimensions and expand the space of cultural development. |
