In modern China, politics, economy, culture, ideology, and other fields have undergone tremendous changes, and the female community also bears the historical imprint of social transformation and cultural power transformation. The changes in women’s roles and lives have become an important reference for the study of gender relations and social change in modern China. As one of the representative female publications during the Republic of China period," The Ladies’ Journal ",from its inception in 1915 to its discontinuation in 1931,not only had rich and distinctive historical materials, presenting modern women’s ideological concepts, value judgments, and daily lives, but also attempted to construct female images that met social imagination and expectations through the media, guiding modern women to transform themselves,To achieve the goal of transforming society.Through social change such as cultural restoration, the May 4th New Cultural Movement, and the rapid development of modern commercial capitalism," The Ladies’ Journal " has gathered social voices and presented women’s images in different periods. With the spread of modern Western learning and the development of female media, newspapers and magazines translated and introduced Western scientific culture, ideas, and systems to modern China. The translation also became an important content of " The Ladies’ Journal ",conveying the beautiful ideas of society at that time for the future of Chinese society and the ideas of female groups. Therefore, this thesis will take the 17 year translation of " The Ladies’ Journal " as the research content, and will conduct research on the construction of female images in the translation. This article analyzes the translation of the publication and finds that during the publication period, the editorial thinking of " The Ladies’ Journal " showed three obvious historical stages with the change of the editor in chief, namely 1915-1919,1920-1925,and 1926-1931.The content orientation of its translation also showed a corresponding change trajectory: in the early stage,it tended to focus on scientific knowledge, family knowledge, etc; The theory and practice of women’s liberation in the mid-term;In the later stage, there is a bias towards literature and art, knowledge and skills, and other content. The different orientations of the translated content in these three stages also construct different female images, namely the "virtuous wife and mother" of old ethics and new knowledge, the "independent woman" of revolution and liberation, and the "fashionable woman" of consumerism returning to the family.Through further exploration of the construction methods of female images,it is found that the female images in the translation are constructed through different orientations of translation sources, innovation of genres, emphasis on themes, and presentation of translation purposes by the translator group.Based on the analysis of historical background and social environment,it is believed that the changes in social and cultural trends, the localization exploration of modern women’s liberation, and the changes in reader market demand are the main motivations for the construction of her female image. The construction of female images in the translation of " The Ladies’ Journal " presents characteristics such as the interweaving and coexistence of new and old images, the fusion of virtual and real identity imagination, and the gradual emergence of female subjectivity, which has certain implications for the dissemination and construction of female media images.
