Zhang Kangkang is a writer who grew up with the People’s Republic of China. She has experienced the historical process of urbanization, industrialization and modernization of Chinese society, and has constantly examined reality from a rational perspective, incorporating ecological changes into her writing, and showing a distinct ecological consciousness in her creative works. Her novels and essays include outline and feedback on the imbalance of natural ecology,as well as ecological paintings showing the harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature;they deal with the chaos of the imbalance of human spiritual ecology and propose solutions for human beings to get out of the spiritual dilemma. The main part of this paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter explores the emergence and development of Zhang Kangkang’s ecological consciousness. The changes in social history and the writer’s early years as a youth in the Great Northern Wilderness gave birth to her concern for natural ecology, which was the germ of her natural ecological consciousness;her family changes and wandering experiences prompted her to pay attention to human spiritual ecology, and her ecological consciousness developed;traditional Chinese cultural concepts, ecological consciousness in foreign literary works, and the richer ecological experiences she gained from studying trips abroad made her ecological consciousness mature. The second chapter studies Zhang Kangkang’s writing on the theme of nature and ecology. On the one hand,Zhang Kangkang expresses her concern about the ecological crisis from the perspectives of environmental pollution and energy consumption;she writes about the conflict between humans and animals from the perspective of man’s hunting and killing of animals, and expresses the connection between humans and nature in natural ecology through the imagery of puddles, trees and fire, showing the imbalance of natural ecology. On the other hand, while depicting the poetic return of nature,Zhang Kangkang shows her animal protection stance from two perspectives: the close relationship between humans and animals and reflecting on human squeezing and encroachment on animal rights and living space. She shows a natural ecological view that natural law is higher than the law of human. She advocates building a “green living room” in urban life, praises the construction of ecological cities, and outlines a beautiful picture of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The third chapter discusses the multi-dimensional presentation of Zhang Kangkang’s spiritual ecology theme.Zhang Kangkang reflects the disorder of the imbalance of human spiritual ecology from three aspects: the self-exile of urbanites under the encroachment of consumerism, the contradictory situation of rural workers between urban and rural areas, and the uncertain spiritual dilemma of intellectuals in the impact of social change. She thinks that celebrating the simple and life-giving natural humanity, reflecting on the merits and demerits of history, and returning to nature for spiritual nourishment are the necessary paths to regain spiritual ecological balance. The ecological consciousness in Zhang Kangkang’s literary creation has unique character, compared with her contemporaries, she developed ecological consciousness earlier and consciously showed it in her texts for a long time, showing a more complete process of ecological consciousness awakening. In the process of her literary creation, she looks at the current ecological situation dialectically, recognizes the duality of women in relation to ecology, and is brave enough to acknowledge and take responsibility for ecology, and actively practices it.Zhang Kangkang’s ecological writing can trigger people to face ecological problems and guide them to adopt the correct attitude and way to deal with the relationship between human beings and nature and human beings and themselves, which not only expands the space for women’s writing, but also provides useful reference for the creation of contemporary Chinese ecological literature, with multiple values and meanings. |
