Currently, intelligent vehicles have become a strategic direction for the development of the global automotive industry. The use and development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems(ADAS)as an important component of intelligent vehicles is a natural trend. From AI to Autonomous and Connected Vehicles: Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems is a book that focuses on the latest development of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems(ADAS).In this translation, the author selects chapter four of the book for Chinese translation under the guidance of Reiss’s text type theory. In this book, the excerpted chapter four focuses on the prototyping, testing, and evaluation of ADAS systems for effective implementation in future connected and autonomous vehicles(CAVs).This translation report is divided into five parts. The first part is the task description, including a review of the task, its significance, and the structure of this report. The second part is the translation process, which includes the selection of translation tools and the analysis of text features before translation, the understanding, analysis and expression of the text during the translation process, and the proofreading and type setting after translation. The third part is a brief introduction of Reiss’s text type theory, pointing out that the technological text belongs to the text type of informational text and discussing the applicability of this theory to technological texts. The primary objective of the fourth part is to analyze and illustrate the practical application of Reiss’s informative text translation approach in translating. This part delves into three key aspects: vocabulary, sentence structure, and discourse. At the vocabulary level, various methods, including literal translation, free translation, zero translation, and word order flipping, are employed to ensure accurate and effective rendering of the source text.At the sentence level, strategies are employed to address the translation of long and complex sentences. This involves voice conversion, literal translation with annotations, synchronization, and sentence splitting and recasting.Lastly,at the discourse level, techniques such as lexical cohesion, amplification, and repetition are employed to enhance the logical flow and cohesiveness of the discourse. The fifth part summarizes the gains and limitations of this translation, putting forward some insights about the translation of scientific and technical texts. This translation report is based on the study of From AI to Autonomous and Connected Vehicles: Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems. It is found that the textual characteristics of the text is being objective, concise, complete in structure and clear in logic as an informative text.According to Reiss’s text type theory, the translator is required to convey the information objectively and accurately;the translation style should follow the characteristics of logical, scientific and rigorous scientific texts;the translation should be readable and fluent. Therefore, the translator analyzes the translation methods of scientific and technological texts under the guidance of this theory from the three levels of words, sentences, and texts, and provides some references for the translation of intelligent connected vehicle texts.
