| Internet altruistic behavior(IAB)refers to the voluntary behavior that is beneficial to others and society and has no obvious motivation and purpose in the network environment. The internet altruistic behavior of college students is not only conducive to cultivating positive psychological quality and improving subjective well-being,but also of great significance to building a harmonious society and a civilized network environment.Self-control has been the focus of researchers in the past few decades.Good self-control can help individuals complete task objectives and obtain work achievements.Everyone has basic self-control ability, but the success of self-control often depends on the amount of individual self-control resources. Therefore, based on the energy resource theory of self-control,this study explores the impact of Ego-depletion on internet altruistic behavior, and whether induced state empathy can alleviate the negative effects of Ego-depletion.This study mainly includes three parts:In the first study,450 college students were investigated with the SelfRegulatory Fatigue Scale(SRF-S)and the College Students’ Internet Altruistic Behavior Scale(IAB-S)in order to understand the current situation and correlation between college students’ Ego-depletion and internet altruistic behavior. The results show that:(1)female students scored significantly higher than male students on Ego-depletion and its dimensions;(2)rural students scored significantly higher than urban students on Ego-depletion and its dimensions;(3)college students’ Egodepletion and its dimensions were significantly and negatively related to IAB.The second study was to explore the effect of Ego-depletion on IAB.A total of 77 subjects participated in the experiment. The independent variable was the degree of Ego-depletion(high Ego-depletion,low Egodepletion). The Stroop task was used for manipulation Ego-depletion.The dependent variable was IAB,which is investigated by means of situational induction. The results show that: The scores of the subjects in the high Egodepletion group were significantly lower than those in the low Egodepletion group. The third study examined whether inducing individual state empathy could alleviate the negative impact of Ego-depletion on IAB.146 subjects were selected to determine the effectiveness of the induction of empathy materials.2(high self loss, low self loss)* 2(state empathy induction, state empathy control)two-factor inter-subject experimental design was adopted.A total of 84 subjects participated in the experiment.Stroop task was also used to manipulate Ego-depletion,and text reading materials were used to induce state empathy. The dependent variables were the same as those in study 2.The results show that: The interaction between Ego-depletion and state empathy is significant.Simple effect analysis shows that under the control of state empathy, the score of IAB of the high Ego-depletion group is significantly lower than that of the low depletion group;Under the condition of state empathy, there is no significant difference in IAB between the high Ego-depletion group and the low Ego-depletion group. This study further explains the internal mechanisms of Ego-depletion and IAB from the perspective of self-control energy model and state empathy. The comprehensive conclusion is as follows:(1)Ego-depletion is an important factor affecting college students’ IAB,and individual IAB will significantly decrease under Ego-depletion;(2)Inducing state empathy can alleviate the adverse effects of Ego-depletion on IAB. |
