| With the "integration of sports and education" being mentioned at the national level as a sports development strategy in 2020,university student athletes,as the practitioners of "integration of sports and education",undoubtedly face more challenges. As university students, the goal for athletes participating in sports is to improve their skills and physical fitness, while also satisfying their social needs and promoting personal growth and development. However, inconsistent learning and training environments have put many student athletes under pressure.Long-term scheduling conflicts, intense training, and competition for success have led to psychological and physical fatigue, which is a common problem. The application of positive psychology has shown that individual positive emotions and positive experiences are crucial for the effectiveness of sports exercise and physical and mental health. Therefore, studying perceived motivational climate and athletic passion is essential to understand how they affect athletes’ psychological and physical health,to find intervention methods to prevent athlete burnout, and to enhance subjective vitality of university student athletes.Based on the achievement goal theory, social cognitive theory, and self-determination theory, this study explored the effects of different perceived motivational climates created by coaches on university student athletes’ athletic passion, subjective vitality, and athletic burnout using the concepts of perceived motivational climate and passion from the perspective of university student athletes.Passion was used as a mediator to further cross-culturally verify the mediating effect of passion’s dual model and its impact on the two outcomes. My study collected 275 questionnaires from university student-athletes across China. The sample includes various levels and types of sports, such as basketball, football and volleyball. After testing for reliability and validity,SEM structural equation modeling was used for analysis, and the following results were obtained:(1)The mastery climate cannot directly predict university student athletes’ subjective vitality and athletic burnout, whereas the performance climate can negatively predict subjective vitality and positively predict athletic burnout.(2)Harmonious passion can positively predict subjective vitality and negatively predict athletic burnout, while obsessive passion can positively predict athletic burnout but cannot negatively predict subjective vitality.(3)The mastery climate can promote the development of harmonious passion and have a positive impact on subjective vitality through the mediating effect of harmonious passion, and can also prevent athletic burnout. However, the mastery climate can also promote the development of obsessive passion, which positively predicts athletic burnout.(4)The performance climate positively predicts athletic burnout through obsessive passion but cannot predict harmonious passion. |
