| Since 2000,a number of artists have emerged in China who travel to create photographs.Some of these photographers follow a set route to document the dramatic changes in China’s urban and rural landscape since the reform and opening up of the country,while others travel between mountains and rivers according to their personal interests and emotional experiences.In addition,the photographers also revisit China’s long history or personal past experiences through their travels.In their works,reality and history,collective memory and personal memory are intertwined.The paper aims to comprehensively examine the phenomenon of travel revisiting in contemporary Chinese photography practice from 2000 to the present.Firstly,it will summarize the works done in the form of travel revisit in Chinese contemporary photography by documentary research,and secondly,it will study the commonality and individuality of different photographers’ expressions of history and memory through travel revisit by comparative research.The first chapter of this paper will briefly review the travel footprints of photographers who came to China in the 18th and early 19th centuries and the rise of travel photography in China since 2000;the second chapter will observe the performance of the phenomenon of revisiting in contemporary Chinese travel photography from the specific practice of photographers by revisiting history and memory;the third chapter will analyze and summarize the unique perspective and typical characteristics of this type of photography.The photographer revisits the past history,memories and experiences through travel with new eyes,expanding the individual’s experience of the world around him or her.The travel revisit on the road contains the photographer’s personal emotions and imagination,not only recording the current reality,but also completing the reshaping of cultural memory and history. |
