The practice material is excerpted from the English travelogue The Automobilist Abroad, which is about automobile touring in Europe and characterized by rich literary and authentic content,as well as a bit of American humor. This report, under the guidance of the Skopos Theory, aims to expatiate the main translation strategies, methods, and techniques employed in the practice with case studies, focusing on literariness, acceptability, and readability, the three critical factors that are of paramount importance in successful rendering of a quality travelogue. In the process of translating and analyzing, the translator found that some contents with literary nature,if translated literally, would be comparatively prosaic. So they should be rendered with image reconstruction, rhetorical devices, and Chinese four-character structures to improve the attractiveness to target readers. In terms of culture-loaded words, implications, and other contents that involve rich cultural information beyond comprehension of the target readers, understanding barriers should be eliminated by adopting annotation, analogical vocabulary, and addition to improve acceptability of the translation.Additionally, for long sentences with complex grammatical structure that do not conform with Chinese expression habits, the target text should be made smooth to its readers,so word order readjustment, cohesive devices, and passive voice conversion are applied to achieve smoothness and better readability of the translation. In this translation practice report, the translator made a beneficial exploration of the translation strategies, methods, and techniques of the travelogue, hoping to provide a reference for travelogue translation in the future.
