Japanese animated films have a large market both in Japan and overseas.Japanese animated films of magical realism stand out among "non-underage" animations due to their fantastical visual effects,unique mystical atmosphere and profound philosophical reflections.Japanese animated films of magical realism are rich in cultural imagery,blending the characteristics of Japanese national culture with those of the world’s diverse cultures,and their interesting narrative style is typical.Based on the theories of film narratology and the audio-visual language of animation,this paper aims to explore the artistic expression and narrative strategies of Japanese magical realist animated films,so as to enrich the narrative techniques and artistic styles of animated films,and to explore the global narrative strategies of national stories.In the first chapter,the origin and definition of "Magical Realism" is summarized,the literature data on "Magical Realism" and "Magical Realism Narrative" are visualized.The research status and deficiencies of "Magical Realism Narrative " in two main areas of literature and film are reviewed.The second chapter analyzes the creative source of Japanese magical realist animated films.National and localized myths and legends provide a rich cultural soil for magical imagery,and the various contradictions in Japanese real society bring the themes and ideas of creation.Based on the adaptation of Japanese magical realism literature and the five typical characteristics of magical realism,the 24 outstanding Japanese magical realist animated films are selected by using the graphical analysis method,combining the rating data from several domestic and international film websites.The third chapter analyzes typical cases from the perspective of film narratology,and summarizes the common characteristics of Japanese magical realist animated films in four aspects: magical elements,main ideas,characters and narrative structures.Among them,the suitability of magical elements is reflected in the high degree of matching of the magical elements to the setting and plot of the story.The multiplicity of main ideas is expressed in a diverse narrative of social feelings,world history and realistic issues.The representative cast of characters mainly includes alien communities,disadvantaged groups and marginal people.The pacing of the perverse narrative structure centered on character emotions is closely related to the changes in magical elements.In the fourth chapter,typical cases are analyzed in relation to the audio-visual language of animation,and various artistic techniques such as exaggeration,metaphor,symbolism and stream of consciousness are refined to highlight the narrative personality of Japanese magical realist animated films.In the fifth chapter,the narrative strategies of "Transforming reality into fantasy" and "Transforming fantasy into reality" are summarized in four dimensions: the fusion of magic and reality,the reconstruction of time and space,the enhancement of audio-visual experience,and the enhancement of sensory. |
