Study On The History Of Gansu Agricultural University(1939-1958)

It is widely believed that the National Veterinary College founded in 1946 was the predecessor of Gansu Agricultural University.However,from the perspective of academic theory,the earliest history can be traced back to the National Northwest Technical College founded in 1939,when the National Northwest Technical College was founded in Lanzhou by the Ministry of Education of the Nationalist Government to train professional and technicians in Northwest China and support the the War of Resistance.In 1946,the National government established the National Veterinary College in Lanzhou to develop agriculture,forestry and animal husbandry in northwest China and lay the foundation for agricultural education in northwest China.After the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the two schools were merged into Northwest Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College,which was later renamed Gansu Agricultural University in 1958.In terms of institutional evolution,National Northwest Technical College is the predecessor of the Department of Veterinary Medicine,Animal Husbandry and Grassland of Gansu Agricultural University.Although the two schools were originally integrated,they were consistent and coherent in their educational philosophy and service to the community.During the period of the War of Resistance,education was moved within the domestics.The National Northwest Technical College gathered agricultural education experts from all over the country,who brought advanced agricultural knowledge and educational concepts,set up departments and courses according to local conditions,then laid the foundation for agricultural education in the Northwest.Meanwhile,it cultivated a number of local talents,which laid the talent foundation for the development of the National Veterinary College and the Northwest Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College.Graduates of the two schools have become pioneers in developing Northwest China and serving society,making important contributions to the development of agriculture and animal husbandry in Northwest China.The two presidents of the National Northwest Technical College,Zeng Jikuan and Lu Qingbao,and the president of the National Veterinary College,Sheng Tongsheng,they had studied overseas and taught at the National Northwest Agricultural College.During this period,they guided teachers and students to combine teaching and academic research with the northwest environment,combined education with production practice by abandoning the common problem that agricultural schools attach importance to knowledge imparting and integrate academic practice in the past.With practical experience,they learned from the education and teaching methods of Europe,the United States and the Soviet Union,then explored a new way of higher agricultural education to meet the needs of the construction of northwest China and the actual situation of Northwest China.For this reason,from the National Northwest Technical College in 1939 to Gansu Agricultural University in 1958,there is not only the inheritance of disciplines and personnel,but also the inheritance of the concept and spirit of taking root in,developing and serving the Northwest.
