A Study On Effect Of Short Videos In TikTok On Dialect Inheritance From The Perspective Of Pragmatic Act Theory

With the urbanization of the rural areas in China,natural villages are rapidly decreasing,and the number of people who speak dialects or minority languages are on the decrease.Dialects and minority languages are not only the gene and living fossil of ethnic culture,but also the concentrated embodiment of linguistic diversity,and what is more important,they are the sustainable driving force and crucial guarantee for the development of language ecology.It is self-evident that the protection and inheritance of dialects and minority languages are the serious challenges to be faced in China.Interestingly,it is found in recent years that people often interact with dialects through a new medium of short videos,and the new medium of dialect short videos has been widely accepted and recognized by the public,and become a common communication phenomenon on platforms.This linguistic phenomenon has reminded us considering the function or effect of new media on the inheritance and protection of dialects or minority languages.Based on this recognition,this study attempts to examine the effect of short videos in Tik Tok on the dialect transmission and inheritance from the perspective of pragmatic act theory.The research takes the dialect short videos in Tik Tok as the research object,trying to describe the situation of how people use dialects to do communication in Tik Tok,and what effect or functions the short videos in Tik Tok have on the dialect transmission and inheritance.The research also explores the causes affecting the function based on the pragmatic act theory.Drawing on the methods of discourse analysis,case study,theatrical analysis and platform of Chan mama,the research has tried to make an in-depth investigation of the audience,the content of the dialect short videos.The results of the research are as follows:(1)The short videos in Tik Tok create a new platform or space for the use of dialects so that dialect protection and inheritance can be realized.(2)The roles or functions that the short videos in Tik Tok take on the dialect transmission and inheritance are expanding the range of dialect use,making dialect as commodified capital,revitalizing dialect culture,showing dialects charm,and driving the general public to protect and inherit dialects.(3)The causes for the effect of the short videos in Tik Tok on the dialect use and transmission are micro-and macro-linguistic environments.The macro-linguistic environment,common sense referred the social environment provides the support for dialect use and transmission successfully.In the micro-linguistic environment,the theme of dialect short videos,attributes of audience and the owner of the dialect short videos and strategies of cohesion break the language barrier of dialect transmission.The author thinks the results of this study may provide a new way or some implication for the protection and inheritance of dialects and minority languages as they are in danger of extinction,though there are loopholes and limitations in the research due to the time and the author’s ability.
