Study On The National Image Of China In The Complete Annals Of Dai Viet

The Complete Annals of Dai Viet,which is the official revision history of Vietnam,is one of the most important reference historical materials for the study of Vietnamese history and Vietnamese feudal society.Its relatively detailed record from the ancient times to the period of Emperor Chieuthong of the Later Le Dynasty,which is,from 2879 BC to the historical events that occurred in the territory of ancient Vietnam,and through these records to construct a rich and diversified image of China.Therefore This paper takes this historical records as the research object,and from the perspective of comparative literary imageology,to summarize the typical China’s image in The Complete Annals of Dai Viet,and to analyze its causes and the influence of the image of China on the cognition of the image of China in today’s Vietnam.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter analyzes "the image of neighboring countries connected by blood" from the two aspects of "common ancestor" and "people from the Central Plains who moved south".The second chapter analyzes "the image of a big country with wealth and prosperity" from the two aspects of "powerful Chinese feudal dynasty" and "superior state of China".The third chapter analyzes “the image of the foreign country that sought to annex Vietnam”from two aspects: "a corrupt feudal bureaucrat" and "the Northern Dynasties that have repeatedly invaded".And the fourth chapter makes a brief analysis of the construction characteristics,causes and influences of the national image of China in The Complete Annals of Dai Viet.In conclusion,in order to enhance and consolidate their own political authority,the feudal ruling class of Vietnam ordered the historiographe to compile The Complete Annals of Dai Viet to record their own history.However,due to the construction of “self” national identity and national ideology,Vietnamese historiographe omitted or tampered with part of the history when compiling The Complete Annals of Dai Viet.On the basis of historical facts,combined with literary fiction and cultural imagination,they constructed a diverse the image of China.Although there are more or less "misinterpretations" and "distortions" of China in the construction of these images,they can provide us with an alternative perspective to reflect on "self" and understand "self",and make contributions to the further development of China-Vietnam relations.
