With the continuous enhancement of China’s comprehensive national strength and national soft power,as well as the wide spread of the concept of the "the Belt and Road" initiative and the continuous progress of the construction project,the "Chinese fever" is in the ascendant,and the international Chinese education is booming,making the demand for international Chinese teachers in the world larger and larger.As an important part of the international Chinese language teaching team,overseas local Chinese teachers are connected with each other,but relatively independent,and each plays an irreplaceable role.The employment of local Chinese teachers is relatively stable,and they have their own unique advantages in language and cultural exchange,which can effectively fill the gap of international Chinese teachers and make the teaching of Chinese language in the country abandon the suspended dissociation.It can be said that only by starting from the concrete and vivid current reality and doing a good job in training local Chinese teachers it be truly adapted to local conditions and take root.The focus of training international Chinese teachers has shifted to localization.In view of this,the training of local Chinese teachers in Laos is very important,and the improvement of these teachers’ competence is an important link to ensure the improvement of the quality of Chinese language teaching in Laos.This study focuses on the issue of enhancing the competency of local Chinese language teachers,using competency theory as a guide and taking local Chinese language teachers in Laos as the research target.The study first uses literature analysis to sum up the theoretical findings on teacher competency and international Chinese teachers,and then uses questionnaires and interviews to understand the current situation of local Chinese teachers’ competency in Laos.Through the research,we present a more comprehensive picture of the current level of competence and problems of local Chinese language teachers in Laos,and explore the reasons behind them.By combining the point and the cross-section,the study proposes countermeasures to improve the competency level of local Chinese teachers in Laos from multiple perspectives.This study finds that there are mainly the following main problems in the competence development level of local Chinese teachers in Laos: first,the Chinese language education resources are poor,and teachers’ ontology knowledge is lacking;second,school teaching and research activities are inefficient,and teacher training is a mere formality;third,the teachers have low initiative and lack of motivation for active learning.According to the survey results and relevant documents,the causes of the problems are analyzed.The internal reasons mainly include the lack of teachers’ professional development awareness,teachers’ lifelong learning ability and teachers’ career planning direction;External factors mainly include school factors,environmental and group factors.Through the analysis,it provides some targeted strategies to improve the competence of local Chinese teachers in Laos: from the government level,firstly,based on the demand of Chinese language education,the cooperation between China and Laos should be deepened;secondly,salary system should be reasonably designed and the construction of the teachers should be enriched;At the school level,the first is to create a school humanistic environment and strengthen teachers’ professional identity;the second is to enhance the professional training of teachers and promote the development planning of teachers;On the individual level of teachers,the first is to transform teachers’ role cognition and undertake their own educational mission;second,Personal knowledge structure should be improved and the concept of lifelong learning should be firmly established. |
