Study On Wang Zhaowen’s Discussion On Wang Xifeng

As a literary theorist,aesthetician and sculptor,Wang Zhaowen has made great achievements in fiction criticism.Discussion On Wang Xifeng with nearly half a million words was published in 1980.In this monograph,Wang Zhaowen made systematic and novel remarks on the image of Wang Xifeng in the form of perceptive comments,forming distinct personal characteristics and unique literary achievements.First,Wang Zhaowen elaborated Wang Xifeng’s character,action and thought,and payed deep attention to her psychological motivation and social mechanism.Secondly,Wang Zhaowen mainly interpreted the character image with typical theory,and made beneficial revision to the connotation of typical.He also used the analysis method of contrast and connection to expand the scope of character comparison to the ancient and modern countries,so that the article presents the characteristics of comparison and connection everywhere.Third,Wang Zhaowen’s criticism shows the characteristics of comprehensible and coherent,which is manifested by detailed character analysis,humorous and sharp language,and strong subjective feelings.It is undeniable that Wang Zhaowen’s criticism of the characters in the Dream of Red Mansions has obvious limitations of the era,which is one of the reasons why Discussion On Wang Xifeng has not been paid enough attention in the contemporary history of redology.Even so,the academic value of Discussion On Wang Xifeng in the history of redology cannot be ignored.
