| After entering the 21 st century,China’s market economy and cultural industry have developed at a rapid pace,causing entertainment-oriented consumerism to rapidly permeate the daily lives and activities of young people,and pan-entertainment has covered every part of youth culture.In addition,young audiences have become the main consumer of today’s movie market,and to a certain extent,the movie-going orientation of teenagers is related to the prosperity of the movie box office.Based on this reality and coinciding with the reform of China’s film industry,the development of Chinese teen films has surged in recent years and has been squeezed into the mainstream film industry.This rapid development is not only reflected in the steady increase in the number of youth films and the record high box office,but also in the diversified development of subgenres.With the development of the niche of the film market,the genre experience of the movie-going public,the rising quality requirements for films,and the trend of the continuous development and evolution of genre films,genre fusion has become an inevitable trend and phenomenon in the development of genre films.It is a reflection of youth psychology and the externalization of youth culture,and it also contributes to the change of mainstream culture in a subtle way.The quality of teen films in China today varies,and their content is controversial,especially in terms of the development of subgenres.The teen film subgenre is based on the teen film genre,enriched with various genre elements and narrative strategies,and is a conscious choice in the process of film commercialization and an inevitable trend under the influence of popular culture.Therefore,this paper attempts to study several sub-genre models of teen films,revealing the strong internal driving force of teen films from the perspective of genre theory,and then considering the development and shortcomings of teen film sub-genres,as well as exploring the innovative power of teen film sub-genres,and finally,revealing the penetration and influence of the trend of genre fusion on Chinese teen films through the current situation analysis.Through sorting out the development of Chinese teen film subgenres,it is found that Chinese teen films lack attention to the inner world of youth and youth culture,and lose youthfulness in genre fusion by over-emphasizing the genre model,so there is a need to further improve the diversified system of teen film subgenres.This paper is divided into five chapters: Chapter 1: Youth Rituals and Teen Films.This section focuses on the development and evolution of the teen film genre by analyzing the lifestyle of adolescence,the characteristics of youth culture and the aesthetic orientation of youth audiences.Chapter 2: The Development and Evolution of Chinese Teen Films.By tracing the origins of Chinese teen films,this section analyzes the influences and revelatory meanings brought to the creation of contemporary teen films from historical development.Chapter 3: Inheritance and Change: Mainstream Teen Film Subgenres.This section compares the teen romance,teen comedy,teen crime and teen family ethics films,and finds that the integration of teen films with popular established genres is more easily accepted by audiences.Chapter 4: Niche Exploration:Non-mainstream Teen Film Subgenres.This chapter compares the popular teen film subgenres in world,but less created in China,and finds that these films require higher literacy from creators and audiences,resulting in filmmakers pursuing ROI not exploring them deeply.Chapter 5: The dilemma and development path of Chinese teen film subgenres.This section discusses the lack of teen subculture in teen films and the aesthetic interests of youth audiences,and explores the genre development of teen films and the direction of improving the subgenre system.In order to meet the ever-changing needs of young audiences,teen films are constantly absorbing elements of genre characteristics from romance,comedy,crime,family ethics,dance and horror films,and the trend of fusion between teen films and different genres has become a certainty.In order to make youth storytelling richer and more vivid,Chinese teen films,while learning from the subgenre narrative model of mature teen films,continue to make localized innovations in theme,character setting and plot creation,striving to form films that express the discourse of Chinese teen consciousness.Although this process may lead to the blurring of the definition and classification boundaries of teen films,serious homogenization of film creation and aesthetic fatigue of young audiences,the flaw does not cover up the good,and by insisting on exploring new changes in creation,Chinese teen films can develop in a healthy and long-term way. |
