In the course of the development of Chinese modern literature theory since the 20 th century,realism occupies an important historical position and theoretical significance.Since the 20 th century,realism has played an important role in the development of Chinese modern literary theory,and it is still the main trend of literary development.In this paper,the development and evolution of realism in China in the early 20 th century,mainly from1915 to 1933,are reviewed,with a view to the historical development of the theory to learn from experience to take care of the development of realism.Chapter 1 discusses the origin of realism in order to trace the origin of the term“Realism” and its development as a trend of thought in literature and art,and clarify its development in the west.At the same time,this paper investigates the reasons why Chinese people chose to study abroad in the late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China in order to find out the path of Russia and Japan,which accepted realism in the early days of China,by summarizing the number of articles on foreign literature published by the representative publications such as New Youth and Novel monthly,we can grasp the main channels for China to accept realism.Chapter 2 mainly introduces the initial introduction of realism in China.This paper first analyzes the historical context under which realism was introduced into China,and then summarizes the process of its introduction in China and the changes of its translated name after its introduction,and probes into the connotation of the translated name“Realism”.Secondly,from a diachronic perspective,this paper analyzes and discusses China’s acceptance of realism under the influence of Russia,Soviet Union and Japan.Because of the fuzziness in understanding the connotation of realism in the May 4th period,the writer distinguishes the two concepts of realism and naturalism in order to grasp realism more accurately.Finally,the impact of realism theory on the practice of literary creation is taken into account as a whole.Chapter 3 explores the further development of realism in China.Firstly,it examines the theoretical resources of New realism literature and its formation and development in the context of the revolutionary literature debate and the international proletarian literature movement.Secondly,it explains the influence of New realism on literary creation and the misunderstandings in the later development of New realism theory.Finally,the reasons why realism has triumphed over realism and New realism in China are discussed.Chapter 4 analyzes the characteristics of the connotation of realism.By taking into account the process of acceptance of realism and Italian neorealism,we can grasp the characteristics of realism’s authenticity,sense of mission,commonality and tendency.Chapter 5 is the theoretical reflection of realism.First of or,this paper discusses the value of Chinese realism theory in the early 20 th century.Secondly,the paper makes a brief analysis of the successive development after the concept of realism returns to people’s vision to prove the vigorous development of realism in China.Finally,focuses on the different manifestations of realism in different social realities,and reflects on the problems of realism and New realism in communication and reception.
