Mao Shi Zheng Yi by Kong Yingda, who was appointed by imperial decree,is the culmination of the study of the Shi Jing. Its rich content and grand thoughts still remain to be fully explored. This article focuses on the first of the fifteen poems in the Guo Feng section,"Er Nan Zheng Yi" in the Mao Shi Zheng Yi by Kong Yingda. It attempts to excavate the interpretive consciousness contained in Kong Yingda’s writing of the Mao Shi Zheng Yi based on historical context. The article is divided into five chapters.Chapter One starts with an exploration of the background of the compilation of Mao Shi Zheng Yi,tracing the historical interpretation of the Shi Jing before Mao Shi Zheng Yi and analyzing the interpretive task faced by Kong Yingda when he wrote Mao Shi Zheng Yi in the context of the Tang dynasty.Chapter Two analyzes the rich interpretive content of the term "Shu" in the phrase "Shu Er Bu Zuo".Mao Shi Zheng Yi inherited the Confucian tradition of "Shu Er Bu Zuo" in its interpretation, organizing the interpretations of the classics from various dynasties with a restorative interpretive consciousness, aiming to return to the original meaning of the study of Mao Shi and ensure the consistency. However,in the process of "Shu Er Bu Zuo",Mao Shi Zheng Yi also incorporates the demands of the times. The image of the poet as a savior, the spirit of frank advice, and the poetic direction of expressing the will of the people all contain a contemporary interpretive consciousness.Chapter Three explores the interpretive consciousness of "Shu" embodied in the "Shu Bu Po Zhu".In the process of annotation and commentary,Kong Yingda adopted a broad academic perspective and drew on various opinions.Through clarifying and resolving major issues in the history of Confucian studies, such as “Shi Yue”,“Qing Zhi”,and “Liu Yi”,he demonstrated a comprehensive interpretive consciousness.Chapter Four analyzes the determinate interpretive consciousness embodied in Mao Shi Zheng Yi’s concept of "Zheng".Kong Yingda emphasized the establishment of the authority of Shi studies, not only selecting and discarding the complicated theories of poetry since the Wei and Jin Dynasties, but also analyzing and reconciling the different schools of Mao and Zheng, thereby giving a definitive interpretation of the Shi Jing and reflecting the pursuit of interpretive determinacy in Mao Shi Zheng Yi.Chapter Five focuses on the literary interpretation proposed by Mao Shi Zheng Yi.Kong Yingda consciously explained the words and chapters in his annotations, interpreting the poetry according to the "Wen Shi" and using imagery to express the text, demonstrating rich experience in textual interpretation and conscious understanding of the text.At the same time,Kong Yingda proposed the significant literary interpretation proposition of "Even though one does not act, they can still be beneficial to all living beings",directly inspiring the mechanism of poetic interpretation in Song Dynasty.
