Kong Yingda ,a master of Confucianism in the period between the late years of Sui Dynasty and the beginning years of Tang Dynasty, was well-known in history for his role in writing Wu Jing Zheng Yi. He absorbed the classics commentary in the period of Han Wei and Liu Chao and applied Chenwei to interpret the Confucian classics. Though his Wu Jing Zheng Yi are looked upon as the interpretation of Confucian classics, they contain ample aesthetic thoughts. Among Wu Jing Zheng Yi, The Kong's Books on Mao Shi, Yue Ji, Zhou Yi contain the direct aesthetic material. His other books contain the ritual and music culture on Zhou dynasty, so they are considered as the valuable resources for studying the early Confucian aesthetic ideology and its prevalence.On the aspect of aesthetic Ontology, Wu Jing Zheng Yi established the aesthetic system on the basis of the theory of human makings and revealed the life spirit and the nature sensibility of Chinese traditional aesthetics through the recapitulation of the ideas about Tao and Qi, the Ideas about Being and not Being and the concept of Tong Bian. Kong Yingda analyzed and differentiated the concepts of Sentiment and ideal, Sentiment and nature, put forward the idea of Nature and Sentiment on the basis of theory of interaction basing on the Qi. He also applied the Traditional Literary Writing of Chu to interpret the idea of poem revealing ambition. The confluence of Shi and Sao since Wei Jin period was showed in his interpretation. The context course from the idea of poem revealing ambition to the idea of poem indicating emotion was also revealed in his opinion of sentiment and ideal.Wu Jing Zheng Yi tried to renew the tradition of emphasizing the image on the study of Yi. Kong Yingda pushed the transformation from the Yi image to aesthetic image and provided the ample material for the appearance of the Artistic Conception Aesthetics on Tang Dynasty through the extensive analyzing of the relation between the word, image and meaning. He also united Shi and Yi to use the Yi image to interpret Shi Xing and develop the traditional idea of Bi and Xing, on the other hand, he brought forward the theory of San Ti San Yong according to the Yi idea of Entity and Function and solved the series of problems about Liu Yi of Shi.Wu ling Zheng Yi put forward the statement of three ways on Shi, combining Chenwei and various poem theories in the period of Qin and Han. The progress of the theory of Confucian poetics function was showed in Kong's books. His textural research of the problem on Confucius's Deletion of Shi brought the great influence in the history of Shi study. On the relation between poem and music, Wu Jing Zheng Yi advanced the idea of unanimity between poem and music and pointed the differences between them on the basis of the thought of ritual and music. Through the multi-dimensional study of the texts, Wu Jing Zheng Yi also formed the unique thoughts on hermeneutics. It has an important significance in the history of Chinese traditional aesthetics.
