Yenching University is one of the thirteen Christian Universities which founded by missionaries with Unequal treaties in China.Yenching University made an indelible mark in the modern educational history which built in May Fourth Period and Cancelled because of National university and department adjustment in 1952,with a history of 33 years.Yenching university had the characteristics of strong religiosity in early stage.The teacher group consisted of western missionaries and their training goals gave service to religion.Most of the graduates served for church after graduation.Since 1920 s,lots of Changes occurred,for example,Yenching University has weakened its religious nature,strengthened its ties with Chinese society,and the teacher group began to evolve.The research focuses on the teacher group in Yenching University and analyzes the changes of the teacher group after the 1920 s.Brierly speaking,the evolution of the characteristics of teacher group in Yenching University can be summarized as three turns after the 1920s: Chinization,specialization and socialization.The research analyzes the three aspects progressively,investigates the specific background and concrete performance of the evolution and summarizes the impact and experience.In addition to the introduction,the research consists of four chapters.The first chapter discusses the Chinization.The Chinization of the teacher group took place under the background of the non-Christian movement and the movement of reclaiming educational rights.The teacher group is more Chinese than before,its symptom is the Chinese-focus faculty,the Chinese-dominant administrative organization,the de-religiosity of the teacher group,China-service teaching objective and Chinese culture-focus academic research.The second chapter discusses the specialization.The specialization of the teacher group is the result of the comprehensive action of many factors,such as the diverse sources of teachers,high salaries and generous benefits,and strict employment procedures.Teachers have been transformed from missionaries into professional educators.Specialization includes professional knowledge,educational philosophy,teaching style,teaching methods and teacher-student relationship.The third chapter discusses the Socialization.In the process of socialization,early individual teachers have paid attention to strengthening the connection with society.Thus,the stage was regarded as the beginning of teacher socialization.After the 1920 s,the development stage of socialization was characterized by the enhancement of teachers’ awareness of social service and the significant increase of social service activities.During the Anti-Japanese War,the awareness of social service was universally aroused,with the performance of the rise and fall of teachers’ patriotic activities and patriotism became one of the themes of teachers’ daily activities.The fourth chapter discusses the influence and experience.The evolution of the teacher group of Yenching University changes the prejudice of the Chinese people towards the Christian university,improves its recognition,trains a great quantity of professional talents for modern China,and promotes the prosperity of ideology and culture and the development of Christianity in China.At the same time,the evolution of the teacher group in Yenching University also provides experience for the construction of faculty and the professional development of teachers in contemporary universities.
