Positive emotion plays a positive role in promoting learners’ second language acquisition.It can enhance students’ learning interest and achieve better learning results.Negative emotions,on the other hand,reduce students’ academic enthusiasm and harm their learning progress.Pleasure and anxiety as two frequently-seen emotions have received an extensive attention in SLA studies.How to improve students’ pleasure emotion and reduce their anxiety learning emotion has become a burgeoning research topic in TESOL.Previous studies have shown that TPR teaching has an impact on pupils’ academic performance and learning interest.Learning interest is part of positive learning emotion.However,it is not clear whether TPR affects pupils’ other learning emotions.This study conducted TPR teaching in English classes in a primary school to explore the influence of TPR teaching method on students’ pleasure and anxiety emotions in English learning.The research questions of this paper are as follows:1.Does TPR affect the English learning emotions of Medium-level(third grades)students,such as improving "pleasant" learning emotions or reducing "anxious" learning emotions?2.How does TPR affect students’ English learning emotions?Quantitative research and qualitative research were adopted.Two classes in Grade 3 of Y Primary School in Haikou City were taken as the experimental class and the control class for an eight-week teaching experiment.Before and after the experiment,students in the experimental class and the control class were monitored.In addition,the author interviewed students and teachers in the experimental class through random sampling,and observed the TPR classroom teaching in the experimental class through observation,in order to understand the factors that influence the students’English learning emotion.The results show that TPR can improve students’ pleasure learning emotion and reduce students’ anxiety learning emotion.The influence factors of TPR on students’ English learning emotion include active classroom atmosphere,increased initiative of students’ learning subjects,and increased attention and participation of students in class.
