As one of the writers of the colonial state, fighting against colonial domination, expressing feelings of patriotism and questing for peoples’way out become the major themes in the creation of Tagore’s life.Western nationalism was prevalent in the 19th century, when in the 20th century the wave of nationalism had spread to almost every country in the world.Tagore expressed his unique view on nationalism in his writing and books. The biggest feature of Tagore’s nationalism thought is concerned about "people",concerned about the freedom of the human personality. He believes that Western nationalism has been driven to national egoism by greed,it undermines the moral world of the human race, breaks the harmony of the world.Western nationalism not only brings grave disaster to the colonial peoples, but also makes the West itself lost its original nature, lost its moral balance,it will step toward a spiritual abyss of emptiness, suffer reprisals were due.As for India’s nationalism,Tagore was not in favor of violence,in his view,on one hand,India should stay calmer, strengthen the internal reforms and construction of its own,on the other hand India should actively learn advanced culture from the West and enhance its strength. As long as India sticks to their own beliefs, they will eventually achieved a moral victory, and will also usher in the independence and freedom of the nation.Tagore’s nationalist ideology has a distinct sense of the whole world and ideal color,it is partly the result of the influence of India’s traditional culture, and partly because his family’s influence, his personal learning and the changing times.Under the influence of ancient India’s philosophy of profound meaning and modern Western humanism,Tagore formed a system of humanitarian philosophies, harmony and unity is the supremacy of truth he pursues. His spirit of harmony and unity has also reflected in his nationalist ideology. His humanitarian nationalist ideology is a valuable asset for mankind.
