| This is a report of simulated consecutive interpretation practice, which describes the entire process of the interpreting tasks from preinterpreting preparation to post-interpreting analysis. In the context of the Belt and Road Initiative,China is playing an increasingly significant role in the global cultural exchange. This is a great opportunity to promote Chinese wine culture going global.Chinese baijiu culture not only includes customs and traditions related to baijiu but also encompasses a wealth of historical anecdotes and philosophical ideas. The corpus for this report comes from a cultural interview program produced by CCTV,Cultural China—Chinese Baijiu Culture, which conveys the origins, development, and cultural phenomena derived from baijiu in China. The author believes that this program can promote the exchange of Chinese baijiu culture abroad, yet there is no official English translation available. Therefore, the author selects this program as the interpreting material for English-Chinese interpreting practice, hoping that the translation will enable more people to understand Chinese baijiu culture. The source text in this practice report is characterized by its literary nature and rich cultural connotations. The speakers often cite classics, and the dialogue involves a large number of Chinese culture-loaded expressions related to baijiu culture. The author summarizes the interpreting challenges encountered in practice into four categories:culture-loaded words, idioms, sayings, and difficult sentences.Guided by Susan Bassnett’s cultural translation perspective, feasible interpreting strategies are analyzed.Translation is a form of communication between different cultures.Translators should fully utilize their subjectivity, employ various strategies, and strive to achieve cultural functional equivalence between the target language and the source language during translation,so as to avoid the loss of cultural connotations. And the author attempts to use transference and explanation for culture-loaded words, supplementary translation for idioms, free translation for sayings, and amplification and division for interpreting difficult sentences.Based on the cultural translation perspective, this report applies corresponding interpreting methods to interpret culture-loaded words and difficult sentences. The practice finds that these interpreting methods are not entirely independent, and their integration can achieve better interpreting results. In the interpreting process, the interpreter strives to accurately translate the source language content while preserving its cultural connotations. In summary, exceptional bilingual ability, comprehensive knowledge accumulation and adept interpreting skills are crucial for the interpreter. The author hopes that the analysis and summary of this simulated interpreting practice can provide some reference for future cultural interpreting practice. |
