The medium incorporates people, things, and things into the connection of the relationship network, and the medium transforms the world into the medium itself, practicing the interpretation of the relationship between place and space. For a long time, opera, especially local opera,as a medium connecting people and land, has long existed in the cognition of ordinary people and researchers as an art form, and its media attributes have been ignored.Whether as a political tool or as a tool for constructing social relations, opera has long been mediated in a fluid space. However, local opera is more geographically fixed, especially cultural spaces like rivers and mountains, that is,Gan opera with a unique geographical environment that occupies the northeast of Gansu.Due to the juxtaposition and allocation of cultural resources, the media have not given them more possibilities for development, while the strong locality of Gan opera provides a local space for people, places and media to be produced and reproduced.Media geography,as a research vision, aims to bring researchers into different spaces, and with the help of the holistic thinking of geography, the complex relationship between people, places and media can be presented more completely. Therefore, this study uses media geography as a perspective to examine what local opera is as a medium, and to use the identity of the medium to combine with other people or non-human actors to form a community of actors,so as to realize a new interpretation of the relationship between place and space. This research will focus on how Gan opera should play the role of a medium in the interconstruction of the whole place, people and society, introduce actor theory and explore how actors connect the past and the future, how to construct a sense of place in the material and imaginary worlds, and what different spatial relationships and cultural meanings are created. This paper constructs the hypothesis of this study by defining the concept of "medium" after "space turn" and "material turn",that is,opera as a medium. The whole analysis falls into the four dimensions of the mediation of the play, the drama and the place, the drama and the person, and the operation of the media combination. In terms of methods, the northeast region of Gan was selected as the research focus, and Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, was selected as the reference point, and the investigation and research were mainly carried out in the form of participation observation and interview. The study finds that: First,as a medium,Gan opera has become the boundary in the mobile space with its strong locality, even in the fast-paced platform space, the people and their behaviors connected by Gan opera emphasize the intersection of the mobile space and the local space, that is,the existence of the actor’s network space.Second,Gan opera has chosen its own object of experience in the time and space of history and expelled the allocation of power. This expulsion is not the collapse of traditional geographical and cultural identity cognition by new media, but relies on the mediation of Gan opera to further strengthen traditional identity cognition. In short, the new media and the environment it shapes do not contribute to the construction of identity imagination space, and traditional Gan opera is the core medium for constructing territorial identity imagination.Third, the operation of the media combination with the participation of Gan opera gives technology a local character, and even if technology cuts off the connection between local relationships to a certain extent,it provides a new place in terms of emotion and memory. This kind of place exists in both physical space and virtual space, that is,people tend to choose to keep a distance from the specific local area in reality and imagine it,and in the virtual they tend to imagine and emphasize the specific local area, and Gan opera straddles this virtual reality and the near and far, continuously maintaining the spread and connection. This paper takes Gan opera as an incision to study the relationship between people, places and media, and on the one hand, through the analysis of the mediation of Gan opera,it reflects the constructive role of art and culture on space; On the other hand,it not only points out how Gan opera as a medium and material media and new media form a media combination to affect the communication between people and people, but also points to the importance of local culture in future media research,of course, this to a certain extent highlights the importance of using fieldwork as a method. In addition, this study discusses aspects that are more detailed but not yet covered,as well as possible deficiencies.
