| Learning ability is one of the four core competencies of high school English,and reading strategy is a very important part of learning ability.English reading strategy is not only an effective means to help students increase their English reading ability,but also a way to improve their comprehensive quality.The flexible use of reading strategies will help students understand the article better and achieve marvellous results.In addition,the score of English reading occupies a large proportion in the college entrance examination,which is highly valued by learners and educators.Based on this situation,this study takes Rebecca Oxford(1990)’s direct and indirect strategy theory,discourse theory,and transfer theory as the theoretical basis,selects senior high school students in Tianjin as the research participant,and uses questionnaire survey and interview to investigate the overall use of English reading strategies of senior high students.This study focuses on the following two research questions:(1)The current situation of senior high school students’ use of English reading strategies?(2)What are the main factors that affect senior high school students’ use of English reading strategies?The results show that:(1)Senior high school students’ overall use of reading strategies is at medium level.According to the order of application frequency from high to low,they are compensation reading strategy,memory reading strategy,cognitive reading strategy,affective reading strategy,social reading strategy and meta-cognitive reading strategy.(2)The factors that affect students’ use of reading strategies include teachers’ strategy teaching,students’ application,students’ vocabulary,students’ attitude towards English learning,and students’ personality characteristics.Based on the above findings,this paper puts forward several suggestions on how English teachers and high school students can better use English reading strategies:(1)For teachers,teachers should comprehensively and systematically teach reading strategies,train students to use reading strategies,and give timely feedback to students.(2)For students,students should improve their understanding of the importance of reading strategies,skillfully use reading strategies,and strengthen their evaluation and reflection on the use of reading strategies. |
