| In recent years,to promote Chinese culture, domestic media have produced and released many high-quality documentaries, most of which are accompanied by English subtitles or directly promoted with English narration. These video works have played a huge role in promoting Chinese culture abroad, and have also become hot material for practical research in translation studies. This translation practice selects 20 micro-videos from Feel of China, covering 20 different cultural symbols with Chinese characteristics, such as Songhua inkstone,Sanxingdui,Pingyang puppet, filigree inlaid metal art,Chinese porcelain,Chinese paper cutting, and Chinese clay figures.Using the theoretical framework of multimodal discourse analysis as a guide, the author takes the text(subtitles)as a blueprint for analysis, while taking into account different modes of information transmission, such as sound and picture,to analyze the subtitle translation practice of documentaries,in the hope of providing some ideas for related translation practices. The translation of documentary subtitles needs to take into account different aspects such as time constraints, spatial constraints, and cultural differences, and to present the translation in a simple and easy-to-understand form. Therefore, translation research and translation practice should not only focus on the textual level but also take into account the simultaneous multimodal communication effects of sound and images. It is also necessary to consider the interpretation and dissemination of the culturally distinctive symbols in micro-videos,to bridge the cultural gap through different modalities of information dissemination such as text, sound and pictures,to present a more intuitive local culture to foreign audiences,to bridge the cultural gap in the process of Chinese culture promotion to the greatest extent possible,to reduce cultural misunderstanding and misinterpretation, and to realize the purpose of Chinese culture promotion. This translation practice selects typical Chinese cultural documentaries as the analysis blueprint.Based on the multimodal discourse analysis framework,it discusses the focus and difficulty of Chinese cultural elements carried by cultural symbols in the selected micro videos in translation practice, and how to coordinate the presentation effect of multimodal discourse from the cultural, contextual, content and expression levels.Accurately and properly translate the original text into the target language, and let the foreign audience understand and accept the true understanding of the connotation of traditional Chinese culture,so as to achieve the purpose of promoting Chinese culture, and provide useful reference for the documentary subtitle translation practice. |
