| With the development of the Internet and the increase of sports exchange activities between China and the United States,the influence of the National Basketball Association(NBA)in China has been increasingly expanded.And there is an increasing amount of NBA news.However,due to the uneven level of domestic NBA news translators,domestic NBA news still have problems such as low accuracy and low timeliness.In addition,the current domestic research on NBA news translation is relatively limited.Therefore,the study on the translation of NBA commentary news is conducive to providing higher quality basketball news for domestic fans and enriching domestic research in this field.This report selects the NBA commentary news of the Golden State Warriors in the 2021-2022 season on ESPN.com as translation materials,which are mainly about the backstories of the Warriors’ players and the efforts of the whole team to win the championship.The NBA commentary news not only involves the objective situation of the team,but also contains the columnist’s personal subjective opinions on the team.Compared to the NBA objective news,the translation of commentary news requires a higher level of proficiency on the translator.Low-quality translation of commentary news can cause domestic fans to misunderstand the original news and reduce their reading experience.Guided by Manttari’s Translational Action Theory,this report conducts the case analysis from three dimensions: the translation of NBA commentary news as a text-processing action,an intercultural action and an intentional interaction.Under the guidance of “translating as a text-processing action”,the translator needs to give full play to the subjective initiative,and adopt various translation skills such as amplification,division,annotation and conversion to provide fluent and coherent target texts.From the perspective of intercultural action,the focus of the translation of NBA commentary news should be put on the intercultural factors such as cultural-loaded words and local idioms in the news,and the translator should bear in mind that translation is not only a linguistic action,but also an intercultural communication.Taking “translating as an intentional interaction” as the guidance,the translator is supposed to carry out the study from three aspects: NBA news headlines,basketball terminologies and complicated sentences.The purpose of news headlines is to attract readers and clarify the theme and the purpose of ensuring the accuracy of basketball terminologies and complicated sentences is to produce accurate,coherent and readable target texts.Finally,the translator hopes that the practice report can provide reference for the translation research of NBA basketball news in China,so as to provide high-quality basketball news for domestic fans. |
