A Report On The E-C Translation Of Global Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index 2021

This is an E-C translation practice report.The translator selects the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2021: Unmasking disparities by ethnicity,caste and gender as the translation material.It measures poverty mainly from the perspectives of health,education,and living standards,covering 5.9 billion people in 109 countries.The language is rigorous and objective.According to Reiss’ s text typology,the translator classifies it as an informative text.This translation practice report is divided into the following parts.The first is the background and features of the source text.The second is the preparation before translation,translation implementation,quality control and case analysis.The case analysis in Chapter Three is the focus of this practice report.Guided by the three rules of Skopos Theory,the translator discusses the translation of proper nouns,words and phrases,and sentences by addition,omission,splitting and restructuring.Because the source text uses a large number of dashes and brackets,and there are differences in the use of them between English and Chinese.Therefore,the translator also discusses the conversion of dashes and treatment of brackets,which includes the conversion of dashes into brackets,colons and the retention or removal of brackets.Finally,the author makes a summary and reflection on this translation practice.By doing this translation,the translator realizes that it is necessary to continue to learn translation theories and methods,increase the analytical ability,and sharpen the online searching skills,so as to improve the translation ability and efficiency.It is hoped that this report can be helpful to the translation activities concerned.
