Abstract/Summary:
21stcentury has witnessed an intelligence age, making electronic technology an integral part of life.Google,as a tech giant, has been using cutting-edge technology to provide people with high-tech products that greatly facilitate people’s lives.Product launch events have become an important channel for the promotion of its products and the sharing of technology, and the related interpreting activities have also attracted attention both at home and abroad. This practical report is based on the 2022 Google Developer Conference, employing Gile’s effort model theory to analyse the problems encountered in the process of simultaneous interpreting. The paper firstly describes background, features and significance of the task. Then Pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting process and post-interpreting evaluation are also described. The challenges encountered in scientific and technical conferences including proper nouns,high-density information and high-speed delivery are presented. These problems are dealt with by comprehension, preventive and reformulation tactics proposed by Gile’s effort model.Specifically,in the comprehension part,zero-translation and delaying the response are used to deal with terminologies. In the preventive part, anticipation and segmentation are employed to deal with high-density information. And in the reformulation part, simplification and the prepared glossary are adopted to cope with high-speed delivery. Finally, major findings and limitations are summarized. This paper finds that by using Gile’s effort model reasonably and adopting detailed strategies to improve cognitive processing capacity, challenges can be overcome. In addition,Pre-interpreting preparation and psychological status needs to be strengthened to improve interpreting quality.
