A Study On The Unconventional Use Of Notional Word In Modern And Contemporary Chinese Poetry

Poetry as a kind of artistic language,poets often break the conventional language rules to achieve differences and innovation.This phenomenon of breaking the conventional and deviating from the universal language rules is called unconventional usage.Through a self built corpus,using modern and contemporary Chinese poetry in the "Chinese Poetry Library" as the corpus source,and taking the unconventional usage of content words in poetry as the research object,this thesis describes,analyzes,and explains them from a linguistic perspective,with the aim of revealing the appearance and linguistic value of the unconventional usage of the content words in the language of poetry.Language is developing and changing.Through the study of the unconventional usage of modern and contemporary Chinese poetry,we hope to predict the development and changes of language in the future.From the non-conventional usage of content words in the self-built poetry corpus,we can see that the non-conventional usage of content words is mainly manifested as part of speech deviation,grammatical or semantic non-conventional collocation,non-conventional word order change and non-conventional ellipsis.Based on the statistical analysis of relevant unconventional usage and literature reading,it is found that the unconventional use of content words has a widespread,unbalanced(random)distribution characteristic in modern and contemporary Chinese poetry,and the unconventional use has a restrictive characteristic in use.The causes of unconventional usage of content words in modern and contemporary Chinese poetry are related to the characteristics of Chinese language,the special characteristics of poetry language,the creative needs of poets,as well as cognitive,historical and geographical factors.Finally,the application value of unconventional usage of content words in poetry is analyzed from both pragmatic and pedagogical perspectives.On the one hand from the pragmatic perspective,the unconventional usage of content words in modern and contemporary Chinese poetry is deliberately done by poets.The ingenious use of unconventional usage makes poetry rhythmically harmonious,and makes the language concise and refined.Through the defamiliarization of language,the aesthetic experience is prolonged,which helps the poets express their subjective emotions.On the other hand from the practical perspective of teaching application,taking the special language phenomenon of "unconventional usage" in poetry as a focus of teaching content not only helps to deepen students’ understanding of poetic language but also helps to improve students’ reading appreciation ability and their writing level.
