A Practice Report On The C-E Escort Interpreting At The Liaoyuan Science And Technology Museum

This report is based on the author’s practical experience of escort interpreting at the Liaoyuan Science and Technology Museum in July 2022.The author accepted the invitation of Leonard,a foreign friend,to be his escort interpreter when he visited the Science and Technology Museum in Liaoyuan City.The author transcribed the recording of interpreting practice into text and found that there were a lot of problems,so the author decided to use it as the corpus to write this report on interpreting practice.By examining the interpretation process,it is found that although misinterpretation and information loss exist in this interpretation,the most prominent problem is the improper handling of long difficult sentences with complex structure.Therefore,the author combines Professor Huang Zhonglian’s translation theory to analyse the problems in the interpretation process and tries to explore the coping tactics to improve the quality of interpretation.As a translation theory,the translation variation theory has been studied by many scholars,focusing on its application in translation.However,there are few studies that use this theory to guide interpretation,so there is a lot of room for development.In the report,the author divides the problems of dealing with long difficult sentences with complex structure into three categories,including unnecessary repetition,looseness of structure and loss of logic,and uses the three variation adaptations of omission,edition and narration in the translation variation theory to solve these three categories respectively.Through the analysis of typical cases in interpreting practice and the modification and improvement of the target text,the author can understand the guid ing role of translation variation theory in interpreting practice.Through the practice of escort interpreting,the author has found her own shortcomings and she will take this as a guide to improve her interpreting skills in the future.At the same time,it will serve as a reference for future interpreting learning and accumulate experience for related interpreting activities.
