A Report On The Multilingual Relay Simultaneous Interpreting In The Mock Conference On "Transformation Of Payment Modes"

The mock conference on“Transformation of Payment Modes”was held in the simultaneous interpreting Conference Room of Guangxi Normal University on November 14^th,2022.The participants of the conference were students and teachers from Japanese,Korean and English Interpreting and Translating majors.The author was responsible for the task of Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting in this mock conference.After the conference,the author transcribed the conference recording to analyze the gains and shortcomings of this practice.This interpreting report is based on this simultaneous interpreting task.The characteristics of this practice include the complexity of relay simultaneous interpreting,figure interpreting,and the difficulties in understanding caused by language differences.In addition,in relay simultaneous interpreting,the pivot language interpreter should not only grasp the main idea and convey information like the general simultaneous interpreting,but also consider whether the target language interpreter can understand his or her interpretation immediately.This also increases the challenge of this practice.The report analyzes the whole process of simultaneous interpreting practice,including pre-interpreting preparation,interpreting process and transcription analysis.The author selects typical cases to analyze the shortcomings of interpretation,such as missing of information,misinterpreting and fillers and self-correction,and summarizes the interpreting strategies and coping tactics adopted,such as segmentation,repetition,anticipation and reformation.It is expected that the reflection and summary of this simultaneous interpreting simulation will provide the specific direction and effective reference for the author’s future interpretation study and practice.
