| The Future of India: Report on the Constitutional Problem in India Part III,is a book written by R.Coupland,a Professor at Oxford University,who specialized in British colonial history.The book mainly relates Indian provincial autonomy and constitutions and discusses the possibilities of an ultimate constitutional settlement in India under the World War II.The current translation practice is based on Chapters IV to VII excerpted from the book,which describe provincial autonomy and the provincial constitutions of India with about 16,000 words.Given that researches concerning the topic available in China are limited,the translator is hoping that the practice could serve as a contributory supplement to the Chinese edition materials in this field.The current report explores the difficulties and solutions in the practice with the assistance of “Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation”(CEA)analysis framework.The source text belongs to political text involving abundant facts of political and historical events.There are a number of proper names and terms as well as long complex sentences in the text.Therefore,the translator was required to consult relevant background information and parallel texts to get full comprehension.To achieve smooth expression,translation techniques such as conversion,restructuring,and ensuring cohesion were adopted.Finally,she flexibly made adaptations to ensure the translation conforming to target language use thereby understandable to target readers.Through the practice,the translator finds that CEA framework is instructive and applicable to the analysis of political texts translation.Meanwhile,she hopes the enlightenments and limitations presented in the report will be of reference value for future translation practice in this field. |
