A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Coonardoo(Chapters 14-16)

This Source Text of the report is selected from chapters 14 to 16 of the novel Coonardoo published in 1929.The author of the book is Katherine Susannah,a central figure in the Australian literary world.Coonardoo has not been translated into Chinese,but it is a representative work of studying Australian aboriginal culture.It is also the first novel in Australia to describe the love story between the aboriginal girl and the white rancher with the aboriginal girl as the hero.Thus,it has sparked profound reflection on Australia’s racial relations.This report consists of five chapters.The Chapter One is an introduction to the project,which depicts the origin and significance of the project and the layout of the report;Chapter Two elaborates the translation process,including preparations,execution and revision;Chapter Three introduces the theoretical foundation that guides this project,namely the practical methodology of "Ten Translation Methods" under Eco-Translatology;Chapter Four is the case analysis,which combines the cases in the project to analyze "Ten Translation Methods" in practice;Chapter Five summarizes the enlightenments and limitations of this project.This project was guided by the practical methodology "Ten Translation Methods" of Eco-Translatology."Ten Translation Methods" includes a general principle,two strategies,three approaches,and four techniques.In the case analysis,the author first analyzed the Source Text from the perspective of the "text-translator-environment" relationship theory,which is emphasized by the general principle "Text-Balancing Scrutinization".Then,in terms of language differences between Chinese and English,the author used the "Target-Contextualization" strategy that focuses on the Target Language ecology to adapt to the translation context.Based on the "Target-Contextualization",the approach of "Vitalization" was used to adapt to the context and appropriately personify the Source Text,while the "Multi-Transformation" to transform the rhetorical devices and cultural information of the Source Text;The techniques of "Extending Substitution" and "Adaptive Addition" were used to replace and transform the inherent meaning of the Source Text,as well as increasing the Target Language volume that adapts to the Target Language context.Through the project,I hoped to bring some inspiration to the future translators of similar texts and provide some corresponding solutions for reference.
