On July 24,2021,the General Offices of the CPC Central Committee and The State Cou ncil issued the Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Homework and Off-campus Train ing for Students receiving Compulsory Education.The "double reduction policy",for short,ai ms to effectively reduce the burden of heavy homework and off-campus training for students i n compulsory education.Chinese school-age children have entered the "double decline era".T heir extracurricular life,especially their reading behavior,has undergone a reverse change co mpared with the "education and training era" in the past.In this era,school-age children will fa ce a new situation of independent planning of after-school life and independent learning.Read ing will inevitably become one of the main ways for school-age children to seek knowledge,meet and improve,and relax.Through sorting out the current situation of the design of books for school-age children and analyzing the new reading needs of school-age children in the dou ble-reduction era,this paper draws the conclusion that the design of popular science books for school-age children is still old and has many defects,and can no longer meet the new reading needs of school-age children for multi-dimensional knowledge,leisure and entertainment.Th erefore,it is of epoch-making significance and important role to timely study the book designWith the purpose of helping the cognitive development of early school-age children,this topic takes the theory of cognitive development as the core theory,and studies how to achieve cognitive development happily and efficiently in the reading of popular science books.It is fo und that the age span of early school-age children is large,and there are great differences in vi sual perception,emotional experience,cognitive depth and other aspects.In addition,compre hensive popular science books that can meet their needs of independent reading,good reading,reading pleasure,and establishing practical contact with life are more needed.Through the re search,the author puts forward two design directions,which are more suitable for the early sc hool-age children’s reading,namely "age grading and multi-dimensional comprehensive new classification",and puts forward the interest penetration to guide the independent exploration;Reappearance of synaesthesia to stimulate effective cognition;Blending interaction,sublimat ing emotional experience;The design principle of multi-dimensional expansion and deep proc essing cognition.The design method of popular science books which can effectively transfor m the content of popular science information through the selection of the content of books,th e structure of the book information,the visual presentation of the book content and other facto rs is researched.Finally,the research results are verified and evaluated in the design practice,so as to achieve the research purpose of helping the early school-age children get happy and h igh-quality cognitive development,and develop popular science books that are scientific,pop ular,interesting,readable,original,ideological and systematic,integrating the establishment o f scientific thinking,the awareness of dimension and scientific tools,the overall improvement of quality.
