Chen Hongshou’s “Leaves of the marsh” is one of his early outstanding works,and it is also an outstanding work in the Ming dynasty figure painting.This set of leaves depicts the forty heroes in outlaws of the marsh.This set of leaves while inheriting the Chinese traditional figure painting technique,creates the exaggeration distortion figure modelling.This set of leaves completes the perfect combination of literati and folk-custom,and explores in-depth the interest of the characters under the grotesque and exaggerated shapes.Not only enriched the popular figure painting at that time,but also formed a unique painting style of Chen.Chen’s unique painting language not only brought a new style to the painting circle at that time,changed the dull and old-fashioned style of the late Ming dynasty figure painting,but also had a far-reaching impact on the figure painting of later generations.The reason for the exaggerated artistic forms in “Leaves of the marsh” is closely related to the personal experience,personality and the background of the times,when the rapid development of the Commodity economy stimulated the pursuit of higher spiritual needs of the public,the prevalence of wine culture has also brought the spread of this set of leaves a broader platform.The aesthetic taste of the citizens has also influenced the unique painting style of this set of leaves.This set of leaves combines the elegant and exquisite life of the literati and the popular culture of the common people very well.It not only has commercial value and cultural value,and it has artistic value.This paper focuses on the“Water margin leaves” painting language analysis,further study of its unique characteristics of the painting style,and through the analysis of this set of leaf shape,composition,lines and interest and the impact on future generations,so that a more profound understanding of“Water margin leaves” in the shape of techniques and interest in the performance of innovation and Breakthrough.This paper mainly uses the methods of literature study,image analysis and comparative study to analyze the painting language features of leaves of the marsh.The first chapter is a brief introduction to Chen Hongshou’s life and the political,economic,ideological and cultural background of the leaves of the marsh The second chapter summarizes the“Leaves of the marsh” and its value,the third chapter is the focus of this article,will be a comprehensive analysis of the“Leaves of the marsh”painting language forms,it is roughly divided into composition,character modeling,lines,interest of the four points of view,and then combined with the set of leaves on behalf of the figure language in-depth analysis.The fourth chapter discusses the impact of the leaves of the marsh on the Ming and Qing painting circles and contemporary figure painters.I hope to use Chen Hongshou’s “Leaves of the marsh”as the object of study,using the method of graphic and historical evidence,the origin of its creation,the background of the times,painting language in-depth analysis,thus shows the academic value and significance of the research.
