Research On The Education Of The Princes In The Northern Song Dynasty

The cultural prosperity in the Northern Song Dynasty was closely related to the rulers’ emphasis on education.As an important part of education in the Northern Song Dynasty,prince education directly affects the selection of future monarchs in the Northern Song Dynasty,and then affects the rise and fall of the Northern Song Dynasty.Therefore,the Northern Song Dynasty adopted a series of measures to improve the prince education system on the basis of drawing lessons from the previous generation.The rulers of the Northern Song Dynasty attached great importance to the education of the prince,and the education methods were mainly divided into enlightenment education,school education and becoming a monk education.Enlightenment education is mainly manifested in the emperor’s personal demonstration,making a statement and writing books,etc.,as well as the inculcation of the emperor by the queen,the imperial concubine and the wet nurse.In terms of school education,Zishan Hall was set up in the Northern Song Dynasty,which was the place where the prince went to school.Before he left the cabinet,the prince studied here,which was a primary discipline.After the prince left the cabinet,the prince entered the East Palace,accompanied by East Palace education;The rest of the princes sealed the king’s house,accompanied by Wangfu and Gongxue education;The prince,who was neither in the East Palace nor in the title of king,built a throne in the Northern Song Dynasty,set up bandu and storytelling,and also provided him with education.The content of prince education in the Northern Song Dynasty mainly includes the virtue of self-cultivation,the way of governing the country,the study of classics and history,the use of art and so on.The characteristics of prince education in the Northern Song Dynasty are as follows: abiding by the laws of ancestors;Strive for both morality and art;Exclusive school education;Strict teaching management;Institutions are set according to time.Under the guidance of the rulers’ educational policies in all aspects,the general cultural quality of the princes in the Northern Song Dynasty was high,and some princes made certain contributions in the fields of poetry,calligraphy and painting.In the Northern Song Dynasty,the succession to the throne was relatively stable,and there was no big palace coup,which was closely related to the education of the prince.But in essence,the ultimate goal of prince education in the Northern Song Dynasty is to serve the rule of the Northern Song Dynasty and safeguard the interests of the ruling class.As the political need of the Northern Song Dynasty,the education of the prince inevitably has certain limitations,and the effectiveness of the education of the prince will inevitably affect the rise and fall of the Northern Song Dynasty.Based on the investigation of the background,methods and contents of prince education in the Northern Song Dynasty,this paper summarizes the characteristics and effects of prince education in the Northern Song Dynasty,tries to analyze the positive and negative reasons for the success of prince education,and points out the position of prince education in the whole history of China ancient prince education.
