As a compulsory course for the operation and management of high star hotels in secondary vocational schools,“Hotel English” is highly professional and practical,which is of great significance to the cultivation of students’ oral English ability and the hotel’s foreign-related reception service ability.Through the investigation of the teaching status of“Hotel English” courses in secondary vocational schools,it is found that,due to the current introduction of relevant national policies on the promotion of secondary vocational schools,the teaching status of “Hotel English” course in secondary schools has emerged as the teaching status of basic English instead of professional English.which has affected the teaching of professional English.It is not conducive to the improvement of foreign hospitality service ability of student hotels.In addition,through investigation and observation,it is found that the teaching method of the teacher of this course is mainly indoctrination teaching.Students’ English learning foundation is poor,learning achievement is low,learning interest and motivation will decline significantly.Based on the review of relevant literature at home and abroad,it is found that situational teaching method is rich in connotation,diverse in forms and highly interactive,which is suitable for the teaching of “Hotel English” in secondary vocational schools.Teachers can introduce or create real problem situations purposefully,so that students can learn and solve problems independently in the situation,which can improve students’ professional ability and professional quality.This study takes X secondary school as an example and uses literature research method,questionnaire method,interview method and experimental method to improve the teaching of “Hotel English” course in secondary school through the collection,integration and creation of contextual cases,which is closely combines the unit theme with contextual cases,teaching basic English while teaching professional English aims to improve the professional ability and comprehensive quality of secondary vocational students,so as to meet their dual needs of employment and college entrance.After the end of the education experiment,the teaching effect was analyzed,and through the comparative analysis of the data of the control class and the experimental class,the analysis of student achievement and the analysis of student interview,it was found that the application of situational teaching can effectively improve the teaching effect of “Hotel English” in secondary vocational schools.It is hoped that this study can help professional English educators to have an in-depth understanding of the teaching status of “Hotel English” in secondary vocational schools,and provide application strategies and references for the situational teaching design and practice of “Hotel English” in secondary vocational schools. |
