Sofia Asgatovna Gubaidulina(1931-)is one of the three masters of Russian contemporary music, composed Music for Flute,Strings and Percussion is her first experimental work based on a 24-tone system. The strings of this work have two fixed strings, string group I uses standard fixed strings, and string group II uses fixed strings that are 1/4 tone lower than the standard fixed strings, which can easily lead to the production of neutral chords.Through in-depth study of the work,I found that neutral chords have two characteristics: first,it has the function of terminating chords,so it has the nature of "main chord";Second,in the harmony progression, the string group I and the string group II in the superposition and connection of the relationship between the upper and lower, the front and back relationship, the neutral chords become their organizational basis. There are three thematic materials in this work, which are closely related on the basis of contrast. In terms of the structural characteristics of the whole work,as a marginal piece, has two structural characteristics of the work: from the perspective of the proportion of performance scale and duration,it has a complex trilogy with inverted reproduction; From the perspective of termination,it has the characteristics of a five-step type with concentrated symmetry.
