| German World War II concentration camp-themed films use trauma narratives, through internal discourses such as film theme expression, character shaping, narrative structure, and external discourses such as the mental state, social trends and ideological discipline of the German people after the war,and participate in the process of German post-war reflection on guilt,Holocaust ethical analysis, national subject search, and traumatic memory healing.German World War II concentration camp films also show a unique traumatic narrative style through sharp criticism and philosophical reflection, which has a profound impact on the text construction and film aesthetic orientation of mainstream films in China, and has become the rock of his mountain, providing a mirror for other countries’ World War II reflection films.Taking German World War II concentration camp films as the research object, this thesis studies the trauma theme, trauma characters, trauma characteristics and value evaluation of German World War II concentration camp films from the perspective of narration, hoping to explore the trauma narrative of German World War II concentration camp films and understand the process and reflection method of World War II trauma in German society. The presentation of traumatic themes, the shaping of traumatic characters and the unique trauma narrative structure are the embodiment of the historical and cultural value of German World War II concentration camp films. Therefore, the core content of this thesis expounds the traumatic memories and traumatic experiences shown in German World War II concentration camp films from the perspective of narrative text, examines the individual trauma and collective trauma hidden in the memory of the German people, and gives deep humanistic care to the society and individuals who are wrapped in trauma. The trauma narrative activates the audience’s collective trauma memory, makes the audience have strong emotional resonance, and actively reconstructs the trauma scene, reviews and talks about the trauma, and finally accepts and heals the trauma, providing a new text construction method for German World War II reflection films. This thesis determines the basic framework and theoretical scope of research, defines the relevant concepts of trauma and trauma narrative used in this thesis, and sorts out the relevant theories in order to have a detailed understanding and discovery of the overall context of trauma narrative development. The first part of this thesis analyzes the trauma theme of German World War II concentration camp movies from the two dimensions of individual trauma and collective trauma, summarizes the causes of such trauma, and focuses on the in-depth analysis and research of the internal root causes of trauma. This paper argues that collective trauma mainly includes nationalism, the influence of Western Christian "guilt" culture, and the banal evil of ordinary people;Individual trauma mainly includes the historical trauma of the individual in the concentration camp and the structural trauma induced by the historical trauma. The second part of this thesis analyzes and studies the three identity types of victims, abusers and trappers in German World War II concentration camp films and their functions in narrative, focusing on some special cases of character types. On this basis, the discourse operation mechanism behind it is further explored, and the symptoms and trauma recovery process of the traumatized patients are analyzed, focusing on the textual internalization representation of the trauma narrative. The third part of this thesis starts from the traumatic narrative structure of German World War II concentration camp films, and analyzes and explores the narrative time and space and narrative perspective in the film’s narrative. This chapter argues that the trauma narrative time of German World War II concentration camp films has a repetitive and delayed plot setting and double-line structure, and the trauma narrative space is divided into three levels: physical space, social space, and psychological space.Time and space are intertwined to form a traumatic narrative time and space, presenting the audience with the full picture of traumatic events and showing the traumatic symptoms and healing processes of the characters. The narrative perspective mainly falls on the zero focus when presenting the cruel life in the concentration camp, the inner focus of showing the individual’s traumatic emotions, and the change from zero focus to inner focus when the film presents the overall concentration camp traumatic memory. The fourth part of this paper starts from the evaluation of the value and significance of trauma narrative, and discusses the significance of combining trauma theory and video expression in German World War II concentration camp films from the aspects of historical value and cultural value.Under the premise of respecting the historical truth, complete the reconstruction of historical images and the identity of the German nation, and analyze the ethical dilemmas of the Holocaust at the cultural level, realize group trauma healing, and establish social and cultural consensus. |
