The Monkey Drum Dance is a unique folk dance of Bai Ku-Yao,which is nurtured in the funeral rituals of Bai Ku-Yao and has a strong ethnic flavor and ancient legacy,epitomizing the long migration history of Bai Ku-Yao,accumulating the customs,aesthetic psychology,nature worship and other cultural phenomena of Bai Ku-Yao,revealing the persistent and tenacious will and indomitable ethnic spirit of Bai Ku-Yao people.2008,the Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance was included in the In 2008,the Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance declared by Libo County,Guizhou province was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.However,with the rapid development of the economy and society,the lifestyle of the people has gradually changed,and most of the young people in Bai Ku-Yao have gone out to study or work,so there is a shortage of inheritors.Therefore,it is crucial to conduct a scientific and systematic study of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance.Using the concepts and methods of Choreoecology,this paper combines fieldwork,interviews,and collected literature and performance videos in Yao Mountain Yao Township,Libo County,Guizhou Province,to conduct a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance.The methodology is based on the core object of the dance,outlining the carrier and basic characteristics of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance,establishing the "Multidimensional Choreospeciles" of the Monkey Drum Dance in four dimensions: form,function,origin,and range,analyzing the Choreoecological factors that affect the Monkey Drum Dance and the environment,highlighting the cultural specificity of the Monkey Drum Dance.It also proposes development strategies based on the current situation and difficulties of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance from Guizhou.The paper aims to add to the living heritage and development of the Monkey Drum Dance,and to provide a vivid case study for the study of Choreoecology.The first part provides an overview of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance from Guizhou in terms of its carrier and basic characteristics,showing the specific procedures of the Bai Ku-Yao funeral ritual and the style and rhythm of the Monkey Drum Dance;the second part analyzes the "Multidimensional Choreospeciles" of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance in four dimensions: dance form,dance function,origin genealogy,and distribution range.The method of Morphological Analysis of Dance is used to describe the morphology of the Monkey Drum Dance,analyze the typical Choreme of the Monkey Drum Dance,and expand the study of the cultural functions of the Monkey Drum Dance,to sort out the origins of the Yao and the Monkey Drum Dance,to explore the distribution range of the Monkey Drum Dance,to show the ecological soil that nurtured the occurrence and development of the Monkey Drum Dance,and to establish the cultural specificity of the Monkey Drum Dance.At the same time,the dance companions and Choreoecological Fields of the Monkey Drum Dance are explained,revealing the interpenetrating relationship between the Monkey Drum Dance and the ecological environment;the third part,based on the current development of the Bai Ku-Yao’s Monkey Drum Dance from Guizhou,tries to analyze the difficulties faced by the Monkey Drum Dance in its living transmission and development,and proposes some strategies for reference. |
