A Study On Han Yu’s Acceptance Of Yang Xiong

Yang Xiong was the most famous thinker and litterateur of the Han Dynasty.His four Ci Fu(He Dong Fu,Gan Quan Fu,Yu Lie Fu,and Chang Yang Fu)can be regarded as the masterpiece of Fu history,which realized the transformation of the Great Fu in the Western Han Dynasty.His representative works are Tai Xuan and Fa Yan,which enriched Confucianism and established his lofty position in the history of Chinese philosophy and the development of Confucianism.In the Mid-Tang Dynasty,Han Yu actively accepted Yang Xiong’s influence in literary creation and ideological proposition.Han Yu regarded Yang Xiong as a model figure of Confucianism,and praised Yang Xiong several times in his articles.In order to remedy the disadvantages of the times,Han Yu established the inheritance theory of Confucianism and included Yang Xiong into the Confucian system,in order to follow on from Confucius and Mencius,which shows the extent of Han Yu’s respect for Yang Xiong.In terms of literary creation,Han Yu consciously accepted Yang Xiong’s creative thought and writing experience.Based on the works of Han Yu and Yang Xiong,this paper analyzes the concrete performance of Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong from two aspects of Confucianism and literature.The paper discusses the reasons for Han Yu’s reverence for Yang Xiong,and clarifies the important position of Han Yu in the Yang Xiong’s acceptance history.The article consists of three parts: the introduction,the text and the conclusion.The introduction part defines the purpose and significance of this paper by combining the main results of the existing research on Han Yu and Yang Xiong,summarizes the current situation of Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong,and summarizes the research methods.The text is divided into four chapters:The first chapter mainly explores the reasons why Han Yu accepted the influence of Yang Xiong,and analyzes the inevitability and possibility of Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong from the two perspectives of the times and individuals.Facing the social reality of the separatist regime of the clan and the rivalry of political parties,Han Yu energetically invigorated the Confucian tradition and carried forward the Confucian spirit of helping the people,so as to save the hearts and minds of the world.The second chapter,starting from analyzing Han Yu’s important evaluation of Yang Xiong,analyzes the reasons for Han Yu’s conclusion,and focuses on Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong’s Confucian thought and the difference between their philosophical thoughts.Through the textual research of Yang Xiong’s and Han Yu’s the theory of Confucianism,it is judged that Han Yu’s praise of Yang Xiong as "Pure Confucianism" is based on Yang Xiong’s outstanding Confucian contribution,while Han Yu’s criticism of Yang Xiong as "minor defects" is derived from the differences in academic origin and path between Yang Xiong and Han Yu.The third chapter discusses Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong’s philosophical practice from two aspects of the theory of human nature and the view of teacher’s inheritance.In the aspect of human nature,Han Yu misunderstood Yang Xiong’s viewpoint.The "mixing" of "mixing good and evil" should be understood as a gray state.In the aspect of teachers’ Tao,the core of Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong’s thought of teachers’ Tao lies in preaching.The forth chapter combines the two works to analyze the concrete performance of Han Yu’s acceptance of Yang Xiong’s literature,and explores the reasons for Han Yu’s different evaluation of Yang Xiong in two aspects of Confucianism and literature.Yang Xiong’s pursuit of words is consistent with Han Yu’s preference for words,and Han Yu’s understanding of the relationship between text and quality is also deeply influenced by Yang Xiong.The conclusion summarizes the full text and clarifies Han Yu’s promotion of Yang Xiong’s Confucian status and its influence on generations.
