| As one of the four ancient civilizations,China contains a large amount of history and cultural accumulation.In recent years,the “Maritime Silk Road” in the 21 st century has been put forward,and more attention has been paid to the translation of relevant documents on overseas trade.Guided by the theory of translation compensation,this report explores the application of semantic compensation strategy in the translation of featured vocabulary based on the Chinese-English translation practice of some chapters of the academic work the Study of Overseas Trade in Ming Dynasty in Ming and Qing Dynasties.The corpus selected in this translation practice report comes from the first three chapters of the Study of Overseas Trade in Ming Dynasty.When reviewing the text,it is easy to find problems with semantic loss due to cultural background differences and cognitive comprehension deviations.Through analysis,it is found that the specific causes of semantic loss include the default of the concept of featured vocabulary,semantic abstractness and vagueness,and the deviation of semantic cognition.In view of the translation problems and difficulties in the translation practice,this paper discusses the application of semantic compensation strategies in the English translation of featured vocabulary,namely semantic paraphrase,annotation,concretization,amplification and omission.The case analysis and translation summary show that the semantic compensation strategy guided by translation compensation theory has practical significance for the translation of featured vocabulary.Through the flexible use of the translation strategy,the translator overcame the difficulties encountered in translation practice,thereby improving the translation quality.It is expected that this practice report will provide some inspiration and reference for the translation of similar texts. |
