The historical writing of Taiwan native novels in the early days of the Japanese occupation(1895-1912)covers the historical writing in China before the late Qing Dynasty(the pre-Qing Dynasty and the middle period of the Qing Dynasty)and the late Qing Dynasty.Under the combined influence of Taiwan’s special politics, economy and culture during the Japanese occupation period, the historical views and creative consciousness of contemporary Taiwan writers are very different from those of mainland writers,so the historical writing in their novels shows a corresponding particularity. This article is divided into four chapters to study Taiwan novels in the early days of Japanese occupation by combining the overall understanding and text analysis. The first chapter focuses on the political, economic and cultural background of Taiwan novels in the early days of the Japanese occupation, organizes the publication of novels, and examines the author’s life experience. The second chapter classifies the history written in Taiwan native novels in the early days of Japanese occupation, and divides them into two parts: the history before the late Qing Dynasty(the pre-Qing dynasty and the middle period of the Qing Dynasty)and the history of the late Qing Dynasty, and discusses the writing content. In the historical writing of the former dynasty and the middle period of the Qing Dynasty, the "distinction between Hua and Yi" was mainly discussed, using the writing mode of heroic history;in the historical writing of the late Qing Dynasty, the "difference between China and foreign countries" was mainly discussed, using the civilian history writing mode. The third chapter discusses the contradiction reflected in the historical writing of Taiwan native novels in the early days of the Japanese occupation—the emotion of "identifying with the Han ethnic group" and the reality of "attachment to foreign countries".To analyze the changes in modern historiography and the identity dilemma of Taiwan native writers, which have influenced and changed the concept of history and the consciousness of historical writing. The fourth chapter analyzes the writing characteristics of historical writing in local Taiwan novels in the early days of Japanese occupation, compares them with the novels written by mainland literati at the same time, and explores their different views on the issue of nationality.
